Introduction

Setting the scene

For millions of people, language is the barrier between them and the knowledge they want. A single unfamiliar word can stop a reader cold — and a dictionary that only gives another hard word doesn't help.

MagTapp reimagined the fix: tap any word, anywhere, and instantly see its meaning as a picture plus a clear, bilingual explanation. From there it grew into a complete reading companion — a visual browser, a smart document reader for PDFs and office files, on-the-go translation across dozens of languages, text-to-speech listening, AI search, quizzes, and a large library of learning material.

Delivering all of that to a huge, growing audience takes a serious, reliable platform. Kuvaka partnered with MagTapp to design and build a Flutter mobile app backed by a cloud-native system that powers these experiences smoothly — and keeps performing as the user base scales into the millions.

Challenges

What we were up against

Understanding for everyone, in every language

The product's promise is comprehension across many languages, including a wide range of Indian and international ones. Delivering accurate visual meanings and translations consistently is a hard, ongoing challenge.

One app, many tools

MagTapp lives inside a browser, a document reader, a translator, and learning tools — all within a single mobile app. All of it had to feel like one seamless, dependable product.

Built for millions

With a very large and growing audience, the platform had to stay fast and reliable at scale, with no compromise on the day-to-day experience.

Many file types, one reader

Reading and interacting with PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-books — with visual meanings, translation, and listening on top — is a demanding set of features to deliver well.

Secure, personal, and synced

Users keep notes, history, bookmarks, and preferences. That personal data had to be secure, private, and reliably available across devices.

Our Approach

Building the strategy

01

Start from the moment of understanding

Everything centres on the one-tap 'aha' — seeing a word's meaning instantly. We designed the platform to make that moment fast and reliable everywhere it appears.

02

Build cloud-native for scale

Knowing the audience was large and growing, we chose a cloud-native, scalable architecture from the start, so growth wouldn't force a rebuild.

03

One app, many experiences

We built shared backend services that power the browser, reader, translator, and learning tools alike — so the product stays consistent and easier to evolve.

Process

How we got it done

01

Discovery and scoping

We worked with the MagTapp team to define the experience, the priority features, and a delivery roadmap for the mobile app.

02

A polished mobile app (Flutter)

We built the Flutter mobile app that brings MagTapp's reading and understanding tools to users wherever they are.

03

Cloud-native backend

We designed a scalable, cloud-native backend with secure sign-in, managed databases, fast caching, and event-driven background processing.

04

Reliability and observability

We added monitoring and alerting so the team can see how the platform is performing and keep it healthy as usage grows.

05

Ongoing support and growth

We continue to support, scale, and extend the platform as MagTapp adds features and reaches more users.

Technology Stack

The tech behind the experience

Mobile app — Flutter

A single, high-quality cross-platform mobile app for iOS and Android, delivering the browser, reader, translator, and learning tools.

Backend & APIs — Django REST

Shared backend services power the visual meanings, translation, document tools, search, and user features across every surface.

Cloud-native architecture — AWS

Serverless containers, managed databases, and event-driven workers let the platform scale automatically and stay reliable under heavy use.

Caching & background — Redis + workers

Caching keeps the experience snappy, while background workers handle notifications, processing, and other heavy tasks off the critical path.

Security & delivery — CDN + WAF

A global content network speeds up delivery worldwide, with web protection guarding the platform.

Monitoring & observability

Dashboards, metrics, and alerts give the team clear visibility into the platform's health.

Results

What we achieved together

01

A reading companion used by millions

MagTapp grew into a daily tool for a very large user base, helping people read, understand, and learn in their own language.

02

A truly all-in-one experience

Browsing, document reading, translation, listening, AI search, and learning tools come together in one mobile app.

03

Scale without the growing pains

The cloud-native platform keeps performing as usage grows, supporting the product's momentum rather than holding it back.

04

A foundation for what's next

The architecture is ready to support new features and even larger audiences as MagTapp continues to evolve.
